Centennial Water Facility Structure Fire
Posted On: Nov 04, 2021

At 7:20 p.m. on Wednesday, November 3, 2021, 911 callers reported a building fire on the east side of Santa Fe Drive south of C-470 in Douglas County. Moments later, Battalion Chief 1 reported flames visible as he left Station 16 and a full first alarm response was dispatched. Local members arrived at the Centennial Water and Sanitation facility located at 8700 S. Santa Fe Drive and observed flames coming from the roof. Members confirmed that all employees had safely evacuated the structure and laddered the building. An attack hose line was pulled to the roof where an air handling unit was engulfed in flames. Electricity to the building was shut off so crews could safely use water and dismantle portions of the damaged equipment. Additional crews advanced a hose line inside the building to search for fire extension, none was found. Although the incident was quickly placed under control, it took an extended amount of time to ventilate heavy smoke conditions from the building. Thankfully no injuries occurred. The SMFR Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating what caused the fire.
