At 9:38 a.m. on Saturday November 7, 2020, Local members responded to what started as a small brush fire to the south of RidgeGate Parkway and about a mile east of I-25 in Lone Tree. Multiple callers reported the fire moving at a quick rate of speed with high wind speeds in the area. The fire was upgraded to a large brush fire, adding more resources to the incident. When members from Engine 44 arrived on scene, they found the fire burning in light mixed fuels underneath power lines. Crews split up into divisions in order to gain control of the head and perimeter of the fire. More tenders and brush trucks were added to the fire in order to recycle with crews working and to provide more water. Members remained on scene into the afternoon hours to continue putting out hot spots in the burned area of the fire. The South Metro UAV Team flew a drone to get an overhead view of the burn scar. SMFR Fire Investigators and Xcel Energy determined the fire burned approximately 20 acres and was started by sparks from a transmission line. Further investigation has been turned over to a subcontractor to make repairs on the transmission line.
