Commercial Structure Fire
Posted On: Nov 17, 2020

On Thursday November 12, 2020 at 8 a.m., Local members responded to a commercial structure fire at the Aces Motorcycle store off of W. Bowles Ave. in Littleton. When Engine 11 arrived on scene, members found heavy smoke inside the building, but could not find any active fire. Battalion Chief 1 upgraded the call to a confirmed commercial fire response as crews continued searching for the source of the smoke. Safety 12 found a strong odor of burning coming from the back of the structure and aerial crews from Ladder 12 and Tower 18 made access to the roof. Members on the roof found multiple rooftop HVAC units producing heavy smoke. Power to the building was secured as crews accessed attic spaces and building exposures to check for extension. Members confirmed there was no active fire underneath the rooftop units and began ventilating the structure with fans. While walking around the showroom floor inside the store, South Metro Fire Investigators discovered one of the electric motorcycles experienced a battery malfunction that melted the front of the motorcycle producing a lot of smoke. The HVAC system sucked the smoke in and spread it through the rest of the structure. Fire investigators determined the cause was an electrical malfunction causing smoke. No injuries to report from this incident. The business may be closed for the rest of the day to make sure the store is fully ventilated before allowing staff and employees to return inside.
