Highlands Ranch Water Rescue

At 12:38 p.m. on Christmas Day, Local members responded to a 911 call reporting a dog had fallen through the ice at Cheese Ranch Park in Highlands Ranch. When members from Station 17 arrived a short time later, the dog was already under water. A member wearing a drysuit immediately attempted a search and rescue effort but was unable to locate the 7-year-old English Bulldog. Additional personnel including Rescue Divers arrived, they opened up a larger section of the ice and a Diver performed an underwater search. The dog was quickly located and assessed by medics. After administering oxygen and attempting CPR, sadly they were unable to resuscitate the dog. This incident is a tragic reminder that no ice is safe ice. If you see a person or pet fall through the ice, never attempt to rescue them on your own. Call 911 immediately and remain on shore. Rescuers often rely on details from witnesses to establish “last seen points,” information critical for locating victims.
