At 10:48 a.m. on Saturday, January 2, 2021, Local members responded to the Massey Draw area at Chatfield State Park for a possible ice rescue. A person passing by noticed something that appeared to have fallen through the ice, which prompted their call for help. Rangers and Local members quickly determined that balloons were stuck to the ice about 300 feet from shore and thankfully no people or animals were in distress. Members from Dive 16 retrieved the “happy birthday” balloons to prevent additional 911 calls. Remember, no ice is safe ice. If you see a person or pet in distress on the ice or in the water, please stay where you are and dial 911.
