On Tuesday January 19, 2021 just after 10:15 a.m., Local members responded to a house fire on S. Krameria Way in Centennial. A group of workers at a home across the street reported flames and smoke coming out of a chimney. Members from Engine 33 arrived on scene and found active fire coming from the chimney. Arapahoe County Sheriff Deputies evacuated the house next door in case the fire extended further. Crews were unable to put the fire out from the ground, so members from Tower 34 used their aerial bucket to access the fire from above the house. Crews found extension into a portion of the attic space inside the home, but were able to get the fire under control before it grew further into other areas of the attic. Members remained on scene for a while using saws and hooks to continue checking for extension and putting out hot spots within the chimney and the spaces surrounding the chimney area. The homeowners were able to evacuate safely and no injuries occurred. According to SMFR Fire Investigators, the cause of the fire was accidental and electrical. Investigators say the fire starting had to do with wiring in a concealed space from previous construction work.
