At 2:35 p.m. on Tuesday, February 9, 2021, Local members responded to a fire at Cherry Creek High School. Security reported a fire alarm activation and found flames inside a bathroom in the East Building. When members arrived, they found students evacuated, positioned apparatus on 3 sides of the building, secured water supplies from hydrants and pulled attack hose lines to the doors. After encountering moderate smoke in the hallway, a second alarm was requested due to the high life safety hazard. Members quickly extinguished the small fire, verified that it didn’t spread, and the additional resources were cancelled. Thankfully no injuries occurred. Personnel from the SMFR Fire Marshal’s Office, Greenwood Village Police Department and Cherry Creek Schools Security determined that an 18-year-old student started the fire and charges are pending.
