At 3:24 p.m. on Saturday, February 20th, Local 2086 and 1290 members responded to a grass fire along the west side of Powhaton Road just north of County Line Road. Gusty winds from the approaching cold front were pushing the fire south and west toward homes. Members began initial fire attack from the road while additional units were sent into the neighborhood for structure protection, if needed. The fire grew to approximately 1-acre and was quickly controlled. No injuries occurred and investigators determined the fire was accidental, likely caused by heat from a running vehicle parked in the dry grass.
